Justice Like Clinton Engages in Pay to Play Politics

As Democrats gather in Philadelphia for the third day of a fractured convention, Jim Justice avoids the campaign trail by not going to Philadelphia to meet with West Virginia delegates. Justice is pulling out all the stops to prevent voters from knowing he's an "I'm With Her" supporter. Not only does Justice support Hillary Clinton, he practices her same brand of shady politics.

"Like Hillary Clinton, Jim Justice believes the rules don't apply to him. He tried desperately to deflect attention away from his more than $60,000 in donations to Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the Democratic National Committee in 2011 to help get President Obama reelected," said Cole spokesperson Kent Gates. "Hillary Clinton didn't believe the rules applied to her when she was in hot water with the Justice Department for illegally using a private email server to handle classified information."

Justice's defense that he earmarked money to the DNC for the Kentucky Governor's race in 2011 not only violated the law, but his campaign drew attention to his pay to play political scheme in Kentucky. His campaign cited a story defending his earmarking that linked to a Courier-Journal story exposing Justice and his family's $411,000 in donations to then Governor Steve Beshear's political operation. The same newspaper story highlighted Justice's big corporations had 129 mining violations in the state and 266 nationally. The article exposes the nexus between Justice's political donations and preferential treatment from state governments responsible for overseeing his mining operations in those states.

"Hillary Clinton seemingly thought it was okay to sell out favors for huge cash donations to the Clinton Foundation while she was Secretary of State. Jim Justice thinks he can pass out more than $400,000 in political cash to avoid paying more than $2 million in mining violations," stated Gates. "Jim Justice not only supports Hillary Clinton. He shares her style of politics."
